When my life seems like it's not working, I try to look at what is working. I imagine these gems wouldn't be mine if I had been born a different kind of soul or had lived a different kind of life. Here's a list of what I would not change for anything in the world, even seamless mental health, because being this version of me gave me these:
I'm going to first start with my husband and boys. I always dreamed of being a wife and mother and they all have exceeded my expectations beyond anything I could have imagined. They are kind, consistent, funny, and make me feel safe and loved just as I am. I am so grateful to have them in my corner, and I will forever be in their's.
I have had some exceptional dogs in my life. They have loved me through the years of not belonging (which is another way to say when I didn't love myself). With the addition of Oakley to our family, the streak of awesomeness continues.
3. Lifelong friendships and connections. These are rare but they are the glue that holds it all together when everything seems to be falling apart. I have been lucky to have my fair share of remarkable, supportive relationships.
The hard stuff helps us see joy in an amplified way. There's a deeper sense of appreciation after you've walked through the darkness. This light, when recognized, becomes its own kind of beauty. A beauty that will carry us through whatever comes next.
May we recognize the light of Beauty that surrounds us all and name it.
It's ours to keep forever.
